Rider Skills BMV Testing

Rider Skills BMV Testing

Calumet Harley-Davidson now offers Indiana residents Motorcycle Skills Testing for the BMV.

Testing is offered to applicants who know and understand how to safely operate a motorcycle AND want to get their motorcycle license WITHOUT taking a motorcycle rider course.

Applicant MUST register and pay a $50 fee (cash or card) for the Skills Test at Calumet Harley-Davidson®, 10350 Calumet Ave, Munster, IN 46321, and then go to testing site located at Stardust Bowl III, 1330 Sheffield Ave, Dyer, IN 46311.

Testing will NOT be conducted during inclement weather (rain/hailstorm, if ice is present, lightning, etc) or if it is determined that the safety of the applicant or examiner is at risk.

  • Applicant must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license AND valid UNEXPIRED Motorcycle Learner’s Permit.  The permit must be held for at least 30 days before you can test.
  • Prior to taking the motorcycle skills exam, the applicant will be required to sign a Waiver of Liability.  If under the age of 18, you will need a parent/guardian present to sign the release waiver.
  • Applicant must provide their own LICENSED AND INSURED STREET LEGAL 2- or 3-wheel motorcycle or scooter for the Skills exam.
  • Applicant must wear a DOT approved motorcycle helmet, appropriate eye protection, full-finger gloves, long pants and over-the-ankle, closed toe footwear.
  • Only one skills exam may be attempted during any business day.  Applicants will be required to pay a $50 fee for each attempt.  Once an applicant successfully completes a motorcycle skills exam, the results are valid for the duration of the holder’s motorcycle learner’s permit. Each applicant is allowed three attempts to pass the skills exam.  After the third failed attempt, the applicant must wait two months (60 days) from the date of the last failed skills exam before taking another skills exam.
